The Seward Highway is the only road connecting Girdwood to Anchorage. Head Back Into Girdwood

Sitting in a stationary line of traffic is uncomfortable and unpredictable. A better option is to turn around and wait in Girdwood, where there are places to stay warm, eat, and pass the time.
